The Dolphin Explorer E20 Robotic Pool Cleaner has the following:
  • No Weekly Timer - The Dolphin Explorer E20 no longer includes a Weekly Timer. After testing over 100+ robotic pool cleaners, we highly recommend a robot with a Weekly Timer to automate pool cleanings.
  • No NanoFiltration - Without NanoFilters, the Dolphin Explorer E20 failed to capture microscopic debris in our pool. While we noticed it captured larger debris, it left some smaller debris behind as the standard mesh filters didn't cut it.
  • Floor and Wall Climbing - A bright spot when testing the Dolphin Explorer E20 was its ability to climb the floor and walls. While it did not clean the waterline, it still performed well in pool coverage.
  • Constant Power - Thanks to its 50ft cord, the Dolphin Explorer E20 has constant power allowing it to clean deeper than cordless counterparts.
  • CleverClean Navigation - The CleverClean scanning software impressed us in our testing. It seemed to be able to navigate the pool very well and reach areas other pool robots would miss.
  • Built for Inground and Above-Ground Pools - The Dolphin Explorer E20 is great for smaller inground and above-ground pools, as it did great vacuuming and cleaning in our pools.

Dolphin Explorer E20 Review

An In-Depth Review by Robert Knight

Introduction

After thoroughly assessing the Dolphin Explorer E20 for a span of three months, we are convinced that this robotic pool cleaner is a cost-effective and reliable choice for any pool owner. Part of the esteemed Dolphin Explorer series, this pool cleaner is renowned for its unparalleled performance, which makes it a solid contender in the market. The E20's tech-savvy and well-crafted features make it perfect for keeping pools spotless whilst saving homeowners time and effort. It effectively scrubs, filters, and collects trash leaving your pool sparkling clean.
The E20's track record after three months of testing is impressive. Despite being an entry-level model, the E20 offers superior cleaning efficiency, making it easily desirable amongst pool owners. The robot has proven its mettle by consistently maintaining a near-perfect performance in handling an assortment of cleaning tasks. Our hands-on experience reveals how the E20 excels at both scrubbing pool surfaces and filtering water impurities.
Taking everything into account, the Dolphin Explorer E20 emerged as a robust and reliable piece of equipment that has proven its worth over the course of our extensive testing. However, if you crave an even more powerful cleaning machine, have a look at the Dolphin Premier - an alternative that justifiably holds the top spot in the Dolphin ProLine series.

Pool Types

The Dolphin Explorer E20 is an exceptional robotic pool cleaner, perfectly designed to handle in-ground pools up to 33 feet in length. This fascinating piece of technology shines brightly when working on a variety of pool surfaces including Gunite, Fiberglass, Vinyl, as well as Liners. The engineering team at Dolphin has truly surpassed themselves, creating a robotic cleaner that recognizes the essentials and complexities of dealing with diverse pool surfaces.
Not only that, but the Explorer E20 is intelligently capable of cleaning a range of different pool shapes too. Whether you own a classically designed rectangular pool, an elongated oval-shaped pool, or even a freeform model, expect absolute cleanliness with this Dolphin robotic pool cleaner. It's amazing to see how the Dolphin Explorer E20 adapts and performs brilliantly across these varying pool designs.
With each passing swim, you can expect your pool - regardless of its surface type or shape - to look refreshing and inviting. The Dolphin Explorer E20 is a master of pool cleaning, setting new benchmarks for in-ground pool maintenance and cleanliness. Indeed, it's a top-notch choice for today's discerning pool owners.

Pool Coverage

The cleaning coverage of the Dolphin Explorer E20 is comprehensive and thoroughly effective. Designed with intelligent scanning technology, this robotic pool cleaner ensures no spot is missed as it scrubs and vacuums debris from your pool's surfaces, going as far as vertically scaling the walls. Meticulously working on your pool, it successfully clears the waterline and eliminates dirt from every corner.
The Dolphin Explorer E20 isn't limited to only flat pools, its versatility shines brightly as it proves to be capable of cleaning a variety of pool shapes. With its clever in-built gyroscope, it adjusts its cleaning pattern accordingly, providing optimal outcomes regardless of pool design or complexity.
Significantly, this device goes beyond just cleaning floors and walls. It also focuses on maintaining the cleanliness of the waterline, which is crucial because it's typically an area where most dirt and grime accumulate. The Explorer E20 does an excellent job of ensuring your entire pool ecosystem is properly cared for and maintained.
Be assured that with the Dolphin Explorer E20, you have a model competent at navigating any pool landscape, always providing a thorough and reliable cleaning experience. Therefore, it is indeed a high-quality investment towards maintaining a sparkling clean, inviting pool.

Filtration

From personal experience, I can unequivocally state the ProLine robot boasts a filter type that is truly remarkable in its capability. Its NanoFiltration ability is something to write home about. Meant to catch the smallest of particles, it not only scrubs clean the pool surface but also purifies the water simultaneously.
Remarkably, after thorough testing, the ProLine displayed an extraordinary knack for deep cleaning. I've put numerous pool robots to the job in varying conditions and ProLine came out on top. It outperformed other robots by far, tantamount to a sweeping victory.
To say the ProLine cleans deeper than any other pool robot I have tested would be an understatement. The small particulates that often go unnoticed by other pool robots were effectively captured. The pool sparkled with an extra sheen that only pointed towards the superior filtration the NanoFiltration offers.
In all honesty, the ProLine turned up the ante by not just fulfilling its duty but exceeding it in spades. I found myself constantly impressed by its performance. The ProLine's NanoFiltration technology makes it an unparalleled choice in the world of pool robots.

Cleaning Performance

In our test pools, the Dolphin ProLine delivered a phenomenal performance, reinforcing our bias for this top-tier robotic pool cleaner. With its robust engine and intelligent navigation system, it skimmed and scrubbed with maximum efficiency. No debris, whether large like leaves or fine like sand, stood a chance against its powerful vacuuming capability. The ease in maneuverability due to its active brushing speed, and corded design were exceptional.
Even in more challenging scenarios, such as irregularly shaped pools or those with a considerable amount of debris, the Dolphin ProLine demonstrated unwavering capability. Our experiences were nothing short of impressive. It was particularly adept at scaling pool walls and breaking apart stubborn algae with its active brushing feature. Its weekly timer option added a layer of automated functioning that made pool maintenance almost hands-off.
The high robot.score indicated that the Dolphin Max-Series, including Premier, Sigma, Quantum, Cayman, and Escape, are the epitome of scooter prowess and intelligence. Did it live up to the expectations in our test pools? Absolutely! We were especially amazed by the agility of the Premier and Sigma models. These robust machines made short work of our testing pools, leaving them impeccably clean and sparkling.
It was fascinating to see the various Max-Series models navigate the terrain, deal with obstacles, and clean diligently. With each passing hour, the transformation was visible, providing evidence of their potent cleaning performance. With virtually no supervision or manual intervention, these robotic pool cleaners are truly a marvel of automated pool maintenance. For a more comprehensive take on individual models, check out the detailed reviews here and here. Lastly, the Dolphin Explorer - while not being the favorite - also deserves a mention. In our test pools, its performance was more than satisfactory. With an attractive price to performance ratio and a remarkable value proposition, it's a suitable choice for pool owners on a budget. Here is the Dolphin Explorer review for more insights.

Restocking Fee

Cordless

When it comes to power options in robotic pool cleaners, my years of research and testing of over 100 robots have consistently demonstrated a clear advantage on part of corded robots. The consistent power supply ensures steady performance, eliminating the need for frequent recharge breaks which are commonplace with cordless cleaners.
Corded pool cleaners, owing to their uninterrupted power source, deliver superior performance even during extended cleaning cycles. This means they can handle demanding tasks and larger pools much better than their cordless equivalents. On the other hand, cordless robots, despite their promise of convenience, often fall short in efficiency and duration of operation.
One notable downfall of cordless robot pool cleaners is the battery life. Though they offer the advantage of avoiding tangled cords, this convenience diminishes as the day goes on and multiple charging sessions become necessary. Even with the best models, battery life falls considerably short when compared to the continuous operation offered by corded robots.
Furthermore, the autonomy offered by corded robots is unparalleled. With programmable weekly timers, these robots effortlessly perform their duties with minimal human interaction, reinforcing their position as the most effective and convenient choice. In a comparative analysis, Cordless robots demand more attention and interaction, negating the very premise of automation and ease of use.

Weekly Timer

A pool cleaning robot with a weekly timer function is the epitome of convenience, enabling users to essentially set it and forget it. Automating the cleaning process is a key advantage that shouldn't be overlooked, setting up your robotic cleaner to perform routine pool cleanings for the days and times you choose.
Sadly, not all pool cleaning robots come equipped with this handy feature. The absence of a weekly timer requires the user to manually program every cleaning session, which is often inconvenient and time-consuming.
As an avid pool owner and robotics enthusiast, I can't stress enough the importance of a weekly timer for your robotic pool cleaner. This automation not only frees you from the chore of constant manual intervention but also ensures that your pool maintains peak cleanliness at all times.
To illustrate this, let's take examples of some robots I have tested. The Dolphin ProLine and the Max-Series are superstars in this regard, offering the much-loved feature of a weekly timer. Such functionality doesn't just illustrate the prevalence of high technology, but it also demonstrates how manufacturers are considering user convenience and ease-of-use in their design and manufacturing process. On the other hand, there are a few that miss out on this beneficial feature, unfortunately. And I have found that the tedious task of manually initiating the cleaning cycle greatly detracts from the otherwise fantastic performance and utility of these units. You can check my reviews on robots under the '/best-robotic-pool-cleaners/' article to have a detailed grasp of the differences.
To conclude, the addition of a weekly timer on a robotic pool cleaner indeed signifies a significant advancement in maintaining pool hygiene with minimal intervention. So, I think all robotic pool cleaners should definitely have this feature baked right in.

Overview

The Dolphin Explorer E20 is a worthy part of our robotic pool cleaner reviews. Manufactured by the renowned Dolphin brand, this pool cleaner exhibits the best aspects of robotic cleaning technology with a slightly lighter touch than its ProLine and Max-Series counterparts. While it might not pack the same power punch as premium models like the Dolphin Premier or Sigma, the Explorer E20 is not a robot to be underestimated.
Equipped with notable features, the Explorer E20 offers a flexible cleaning experience to pool owners. As a discursive point, you might have noticed in other robotic pool cleaner reviews, like /review/${slugify('Dolphin Premier')}-review/ and /review/${slugify('Aquabot')}-review/, that good cleaning power is not synonymous with topmost models. The Explorer E20 proves this point by providing competitive cleaning with comfort.
As a corded pool robot, the Explorer E20 guarantees consistency and robustness in operation. This underpins my partiality for corded pool cleaners, which, unlike cordless versions, boast superior power, longer-lasting performance without the necessity for frequent interactions, and offer automation through a weekly timer option. The convenience and efficacy of this design can be referenced through the /best-robotic-pool-cleaners/ article.
However, the Explorer E20, despite being commendable, doesn't match up to the very best pool robots like the Dolphin ProLine or Max-Series models. Yet, this doesn't limit the Explorer E20's potential as a cost-effective and efficient pool cleaning solution.
In conclusion, the Dolphin Explorer E20 is a solid performer on the robotic pool cleaner scene. While it may not be the most potent robot in the Dolphin family, its efficiency, simplicity, and reliability make it a valuable investment. Just as its Dolphin siblings, the Explorer E20 remains committed to keeping your pool flawlessly clean, saving you both time and effort.

Recommendation

Indeed, we would highly recommend robotic pool cleaners from both the Max-Series and ProLine ranges. These robots exemplify truly outstanding performance, with advanced technology, solid build quality, and unparalleled cleaning power. They can thoroughly clean every inch of your pool with their high-tech sensors and powerful brushes.
For example, the Dolphin Premier Robotic Cleaner from the ProLine range is a top-tier cleaning solution for any modern pool. It boasts superior filtering capacity, energy-efficiency, and a truly autonomous system for hassle-free pool cleaning.
Similarly, in the Max-Series, the Dolphin Sigma Robotic Cleaner stands out with its groundbreaking gyroscopic mobility, triple motor system, and impressive suction power. It guarantees complete pool cleanliness from floor to waterline, including walls and even hard-to-reach corners.
Investing in a ProLine or Max-Series robot means investing in the health of your pool, sparing you from countless hours of manual cleaning and bringing simplicity and ease of use to the forefront of pool care.

Great little unit for my 33x15 inground, but be prepared to buy ultra fine filters for fine dirt.

Steve D. - Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2022

So, our pool was filled July 10 and the 30 day mark seemed to be the consensus that the plaster is cured enough for an auto vac. Seems robots and suction vacs all have pros and cons. I liked the fact that robots are self contained rather sending the debris and dirt through the system. But, the downside is the mfg recommends cleaning it after each use, so it isn’t exactly set and forget like a vac going through the system would be, which is a pretty big downside to me, having to pull it out and clean every day. I actually thought about returning it for this reason and also after finding out that it won’t pick up fine settled dirt or silt with the included filters so I had to spend additional $$ for ultra fine filters (which do the job).

WORKS PRETTY GOOD... but...

I am a quadriplegic and manually vacuuming the pool is a royal pain in my behind. The Dolphin does a pretty darn good job. I especially like that it climbs the walls and scrubs the waterline. However, it has a couple of little issues that keep it from getting five stars. 1. It constantly twists the cord. It takes me the better part of fifteen minutes to untwist it, and it takes the Dolphin about three minutes to undo my work. 2. The biggest reason that I bought the Dolphin is because I have issues cleaning the corners of the pool right next to the wall. It seems the Dolphin also has issues with those areas. Other than those two things it's a pretty good product so far.

Service issue in under 3 months...does a pretty good job when working properly

Mark H - Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2022

First off the Good: Explorer 30 does a good job cleaning my fiberglass pool. You'll want to order the expensive ultra fine filters to get the real value of this robot. It scrubs the waterline and randomly runs around the bottom of the pool and walls for 3 hours. The ultra fine filters can be a little difficult to get clean depending on how much debris is stuck in them but a high powered garden hose usually does the trick cleaning them. Clean up takes me around 5 minutes to thoroughly spray the filter and store the unit. I replaced a Polaris 280 side suction cleaner and there's simply no comparison to be made...the Explorer 30 is far superior to the Polaris 280 as it should be. The bad: I've owned the cleaner for 2.5 months and run it in my pool approximately once a week. I store it outside in a large outdoor deckbox where the unit and controller are protected from water getting in. At around the 2 month mark I began to notice I would start the robot and 30 minutes later the control module would be lit up Blue indicating it was on but I'd find it just sitting on the bottom of the pool not running. At times I might have to restart it several times in order to get it to do much cleaning at all. I finally reached out to Maytronics and they are willing to service it but be aware that it is me/the owner's responsibility to ship this heavy robot across the country to them at the OWNERS expense. At the selling price of around a thousand dollars, I would have expected within the first year, Dolphin/Maytronics to take care of my shipping charges if the unit they sold me was defective. I was told it will take approximately 3 weeks from the time I ship my Dolphin to Maytronics before then send it back. Bottom Line: When it works, it does a nice job. Not perfect but good enough and much better than my old Polaris. Maybe all robotic cleaner mfgs require the owner to pay shipping costs within the first 3 months of ownership but that cost was not something I'd anticipated when I purchased the unit leaving me a little disappointed in my experience so far.

I would have given this E30 five stars if the part number was given in the instructional manual for the “fine filters.” The filters that came with the E30 were ok for the big stuff in the pool but these filters hardly touched the sand, dirt and dust that is constantly trashing our pool with the Las Vegas desert huge winds. Amazing machine but...

M2 Bell - Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2022

Received my E30 last night - about a week ahead of schedule. First thing this morning I eagerly read the quick start guide and had it in the water by 8am. At 8:20a is stopped moving. About 9:00a I decided to pull it out of the water and have a look - nothing in the basket, nothing blocking the impeller and the tracks moved freely. Put it back in the water, hit the button and it took off. Twenty minutes later it stopped again. After extensive research I discovered these things have had this problem since day 1, it appears to be an easy fix and Maytronics has ignored the issue. The fix will require about 2 minutes of your time. Follow the instructions in the OM to remove the basket and impeller (2 Philips head screws). Once the impeller is out you will see two more screws that hold the "guts" in. Remove those two screws and lift the "guts" up slightly. Now, set them back down reassemble everything. Put the E30 back in the pool and press the power button. Done. Mine has now completed 3 complete cycles without stopping. Apparently these units bounce around in the box and the guts loosen up. Amazing cleaner but I'm giving it a rating of 3 because for $900 we should not have to go thru this.

I was sick of repairing my old Polaris cleaner that runs on a booster pump. I had replaced many parts, but still had to tinker with it to get marginal performance. The reviews here and elsewhere were good for this robot, so I ordered it. My pool was quite dirty, and there was a mild algae bloom to deal with and it took multiple cycles over a couple days to clean it up. Despite all that, the robot still doesn't hit every part of my pool. I can see areas that it missed, so I know my days of brushing the pool still go on (not that anyone ever indicated it was going away). At least it isn't popping wheelies or running in small circles at the bottom of the pool.

We’re really happy with the performance of this vacuum, we’re comparing it to a 15-year-old Aqaba. Technology has improved over time, and our other vacuum was failing. I was also considering a Polaris model but after going back-and-forth several times decided to give this one a shot and I have not been disappointed so far. Very easy to clean, gather small sand and large leaves just the same. Our pool is sparkling.

I bought this Robot hoping it would help vacuum the bottom of my pool. We have a pop up pool cleaning system and it doesn't clean all of the bottom of our pool. For 30 years I have manually vacuumed the bottom of my pool after storms left leaves covering the bottom of my pool. I was so excited to learn that the Robot might take over the vacuuming for me. We set it up and ran it 3 different times. It picked up some of the leaves but spit them out of the top vent. I followed all the troubleshooting tricks and it still spit the leaves out the top - so I ended up vacuuming the leaves manually anyways. I really wished this would have worked for me, but it didn't.

The app will not connect no-matter what you do. The QR code you're supposed to scan does nothing but sends you to an error page. The current app is broken. I have the latest Samsung flagship S22 Ultra on the latest version of Android so I assumed (correctly) the problem wasn't with me. The Solution: You'll need to find and download version 1.4.1, the thing connected immediately and has stayed connected this whole time (less than 24hrs). Then turn off automatic updates for that app. What I haven't tried is, now that I'm connected, I thought about updating the app thinking the app would just stay connected because it was connected in the previous version. It's a theory, I'm not going to try it. The old 1.4.1 version works great! I had the Dolphin Premier, the bagged system in that robot wasn't great. The basket in the E70 is a huge upgrade. The Premier would also give me "filter is full" error after each run. I'd take it out, clean it, next run same thing. Plus all of the smart features of the E70... nice upgrade. I'll update if anything changes, but this thing is pretty sweet!

Answer

I have a kidney shaped pool and it gets all the pool surface. Can't tell you about sharp corners in a pool as you have.

Question
How does it do with steps and shelf part of pool?
Answer

In my pool, the tanning ledge is too shallow for it to operate it won't crawl onto mine and scrub it. It does climb the steps and does a little bit of work on them but you should expect to still need to brush the ledge, stairs, and any benches regularly.

Question
What rating of GFI is suggested for power source?
Answer

Question

Answer

Question
Does it work on a vinyl liner?
Answer

Absolutely! Most home pools these days have vinyl liners and it does an outstanding job....including climbing the walls!

Question
Does work with 220 volts?
Answer

No, this pool vacuum is set up to use standard USA household current, 110 volt. You'd have to purchase a 220V to 110V convertor (Amazon sells one for $38). You'd be fine with one of those.

Question
How do I get help with my vacuum? One of the tracks keeps falling off of it! It goes to the side of the pool and it gets stuck and then it just stops!
Answer

First off, I'm assuming the writer is referring to the Dolphin E20 as his "vacuum". It sounds like an adjustment or some kind of tensioner, could be required to fix the problem. I have never experienced anything like this, so I'm at a loss for an answer. I'd contact Customer Service at Dolphin and explain the problem. I would expect he could find an answer with them.

Question
How much does it weigh?
Answer

I don't really know, it's probably in the owners manual...my guess would be 15-20lb. It's simple to pull on it's cord and drag it up from the bottom of your pool, up to the waterline and then they have a sizeable handle to yank it out of the water.

Question
Can it clean in-ground vinyl pool?
Answer

yes...does an excellent job!

Question

Question

Question
Can you use on above ground pool?
Answer

NO!

Question
Can it be used on an above ground pool
Answer

Yes it can be used for above ground and in ground vinyl pools. I use the Dolphin E23 for our vinyl in ground pool and it does a very good job cleaning the pool, and it does clime to clean the wall of the pool also. Awesome product.

Question
Voltage need to know if purchased on amazon in usa, can i bring to a different country using 230v 50hz?
Answer

My guess is you would have to buy a voltage convertor just like you would if you needed any 110V USA appliance, like a hairdryer or electric toothbrush.

Question
Is this Safe on vinyl liners?
Answer

Yes, works great!

Question
How long is the power cord?
Answer

Approximately 6 feet

Question
What model of Dolphin auto cleaner should I get for I above ground pool need at least 45 foot power cord?
Answer

The dolphin E10. It only has 30 feet of cord but you mount the power box in the middle of the pool and it reaches both directions.

Question
Does the unit need to be plugged into a wall outlet during use?
Answer

Yes. It does.

Question
what’s the part number for the ultrafine filters for this e30
Answer

Question
Is the control unit waterproof?
Answer

I'd guess the owner's manual would tell you if the control box is waterproof, but the design of this unit makes that question not an issue (unless you leave the control box out in the rain). The Dolphin has a 50' waterproof cord that powers the Dolphin E20 while it's in the water...it is attached to the Dolphin and can't be removed. The other end of that cord is screwed into the control box which also has a 110V cord that you plug into household electrical outlet. The instructions do recommend keeping the control box shielded from direct sunlight because it does run warm while operating. The controls are on the box...on & off switch and the option of running the unit 1, 2 or 3 hours. You attach the 50' cord to your control box and lower the dolphin into your pool. Turn it on and select the time you want it to run, start it and walk away. This unit is simply amazing! It does a great job on the bottom and walls of your pool, you don't have to do anything! I truly love his item and HIGHLY recommend one for your pool!

Question

Answer

Answer

The Dolphin E20 is specifically made for in ground pools. The Nautilus CC is made to service both inground and above grounds pools. The specs say the are virtually the same in performance and values. Either one should work fine. I have an inground and bought the E20 and its a dream!

Question
Can the filter pickup algae and fine sands?
Answer

Question
What’s the difference with the E20 vs the Nautilus Cc?
Answer

Don't know the answer, but if you Google that question, you'll find a compete spread sheet answer. Bottom line, the E20 is for in ground pools and the Nautilus is good for both in ground and above ground. If you have an in ground pool, no worries, buy the E20 and you'll be thrilled!
