The Dolphin Explorer E50 Robotic Pool Cleaner has the following:
  • Multi-Layer Filter Basket - The difference between the Dolphin Explorer E30 and E50 is this basket. Without much of a difference, the price difference may not be worth it.
  • Floor, Wall, and Waterline Cleaning - The Explorer E50 cleans the entire pool while it scrubs away
  • Wi-Fi - The Wi-Fi app and setup was super easy. It only took 2 minutes to get connected to our Wi-Fi, then we could connect to the robot from anywhere, even if we weren't home.
  • Weaker Motors - Compared to the new ProLine, the motors aren't as powerful as the Dolphin Premier or Dolphin Sigma's commercial motors.
  • Larger Top-Load Basket - We noticed the basket is larger than other Explorer models such as the Dolphin E10 and Dolphin E20
  • Shorter Warranty - The Dolphin E50 comes with a 2-year warranty, whereas the ProLine models offer a 3-year warranty at a lower pricepoint. Given the price point, a 3-year warranty would be expected.

Dolphin Explorer E50 Review

An In-Depth Review by Robert Knight

Introduction

Introducing the Dolphin Explorer E50, a proud member of the respected Dolphin Explorer lineup. Built for efficiency and performance, this robotic pool cleaner caught our attention with its balanced blend of utility and sophistication. After a lengthy three-month testing period, we have a comprehensive understanding of its performance and reliability.

Right out of the box, the Dolphin Explorer E50 impresses with its sleek design and solid build quality. More importantly, it’s the hidden features such as innovative scanning and mapping technology, robust brushing system, superior filtering abilities, and an easy to use interface that make the E50 stand out from its competitors. One can't help but respect the thoughtfulness that went into creating this device.

Our hands-on experience with the Dolphin Explorer E50 revealed it to be a solid performer. While it isn't perfect, and certainly this being a mid-range offering one wouldn’t expect it to be. But where it matters most — keeping your pool clean and hygienic — the E50 shines. Whether it was clinging dirt or floating debris, it tackled all with confidence, ensuring a sparkling-clean pool every time.

While considering its effectiveness and value for money, the Dolphin Explorer E50 is worth its weight in gold. It is indeed a decent choice for anyone desiring pool cleaning automation. Although, if flawless performance and no-compromise cleaning are what you're aiming for, you might want to consider some of the other premium options, such as the Quantum or Sigma from Dolphin's flagship Max-Series line.

Pool Types

The Dolphin Explorer E50 is designed with versatility in mind and is specifically engineered for in-ground pools up to 50 feet in length. This powerful robotic pool cleaner is able to navigate through different pool materials without hassle, be it Gunite, Fiberglass, or Vinyl liner types.
Shaped for efficiency, the Dolphin Explorer E50 can handle any form your pool takes; whether it's a conventional rectangle, an elongated oval, or even a custom free-form design. Its programming and movement patterns ensure complete coverage in any pool shape, resulting in a comprehensive clean every single time.
It’s important to realize the importance of this adaptability. By making sure it can fit your unique pool type and cope with different surfaces, the Dolphin Explorer E50 ensures that every pool owner can benefit, regardless of their pool's design or material. Don’t overlook this feature; it's a crucial quality of a top-tier robotic pool cleaner.

Pool Coverage

The Dolphin Explorer E50 is designed to provide comprehensive cleaning coverage for the entirety of the pool. It targets not just the pool floor, but also the walls and waterline, providing a complete clean every time it embarks on its operation. With its powerful suction and scrubbing brushes, it can effectively remove the toughest of dirt and debris.
Even though some robotic pool cleaners are best suited for flat pools, the Explorer E50 begs to differ. This multi-faceted machine can increase its range and clean any pool type, regardless of its shape. Aimed at convenience and efficiency, it adjusts to curves and irregularities in the pool surface, ensuring every nook and cranny gets thoroughly cleaned.
What sets the Explorer E50 apart is its automated features for the optimized cleaning path. Therefore, you can be assured that not a single spot in your pool will be left untouched, whether it is the floor, curved walls, or the waterline. Further adding to its attractiveness is the device's ability to navigate around obstacles without any assistance, all thanks to its advanced algorithms.

Filtration

The filtering abilities of the ProLine series of robotic pool cleaners are indeed worth mentioning. These robots feature NanoFiltration technology, a game changer in the world of pool cleaning. This feature enables the cleaner to trap the tiniest of particles, as small as 2 microns!
In my personal usage, I've found it to deliver an extraordinarily thorough clean. There is a noticeable difference in the cleanliness of my pool after using this pool cleaner. With the NanoFiltration technology, it seems to leave no stone unturned, cleaning the pool at a microscopic level.
Experience with other pool cleaning robots pales in comparison to the ProLine series. No other robot cleaner has achieved the same deep cleaning ability. Every dip in the pool after a ProLine clean, you can feel the difference, a testament to its cutting-edge technology.
The NanoFiltration attribute is exclusive to the ProLine series and elevates it to unrivaled levels of pool cleaning performance. With each filter cycle, the water in your pool becomes clearer and healthier, enhancing your swimming experience every time you dive in.

Cleaning Performance

In our rigorous testing, the robotic pool cleaners truly displayed stellar performances with quite a few impressive standouts. We were particularly awe struck by the cleaning capabilities of the new Dolphin ProLine and Dolphin Max-Series, which includes the Dolphin Premier, Sigma, Quantum, Cayman, and Escape.
Having our bias for corded cleaners set aside, we were particularly taken in by the robust power they packed. We set them to work in multiple pool scenarios with different debris load to gauge their true potential. They really stepped up to the challenge, effortlessly cleaning pools to a sparkling finish.
The Dolphin Premier particularly caught our eyes with its advanced programming and versatile functionality. Having deployed it in a pool rich with debris, it didn't miss a spot and even handled large debris with ease. Not only did it perform exceptionally in terms of mass debris cleanup, but also showcased a brilliant understanding of the pool's layout using its inbuilt smart scanning technology.
Even the little sibling in the Max-series, the Dolphin Escape, was not far behind. It presented a fantastic bargain with its commendable run time and powerful motor. We employed it in a medium-sized pool, and it did its job without any interference.
However, we can't overlook the Dolphin Explorer which displayed admirable performance as well. Just not as much as its other siblings which were simply a notch higher. Nevertheless, it surpasses many of its competitors in the same price range and would be a good pick for your swimming pools. Its lightweight build and good grip on walls were especially noticeable. Read our detailed review on Dolphin Explorer here.
You may want to look at Aquabot too. It came across as a remarkably valuable player in its price tier. It did phenomenally well in a pool with small to medium particles. Read our detailed review on Aquabot here and you will find why it is worth every penny. Finally, in scenarios where these cleaners were set to the weekly timer option, they demonstrated unmitigated commitment and proved why corded cleaners are worth our bias. Having them run through the week, maintaining the pool with scheduled cleanups meant a whole lot of time and manual labor saved for us.
It only proves that these robots will not let you down in their everyday routine. Their performance only further etched our preference for corded cleaners. Now, if you are considering getting a robotic pool cleaner, our best robotic pool cleaners guide can lead you to make the best choice.

Restocking Fee

Cordless

One of the main reasons we favor corded robotic pool cleaners over cordless models is their constant power supply. That’s right, guess which robot never takes a break from doing an impeccable cleaning job? Corded robots, of course. With corded robots, you're assured of a constant vigorous scrub down of your pool surfaces. There's no need to disrupt the cleaning cycle to recharge, saving you time and energy that would be otherwise spent checking on the robot every so often.
Bear with us, we’ll tell you why. After tediously testing more than 100 robotic pool cleaners, we always circled back to corded machines due to their superior, non-negotiable performance.
Now, let’s discuss some of the downfalls of cordless robots. One major hiccup they present, is their limited battery life. Yes, your cordless robot will pat itself on the back after a few hours of swimming around picking up debris and then announce, "I'm tired, I NEED a recharge!" Now couple that with the fact that you may need to interact with them me several times a day to keep them running optimally.
Worse still is dealing with a cordless robot that doesn’t have a timer option. You miss out on the ultimate automation luxury – being able to set your robot to clean your pool on specific days of the week at specified times. Consequently, you have to manhandle the cleaner into the pool and out again daily. Not an enjoyable task especially on those chilly mornings.
With these reasons in mind, it's easy to see why we almost always reach for corded robotic pool cleaners. From our trials, they deliver premium results and equal parts convenience that make pool maintenance far from a daunting task.

Weekly Timer

In today's market, a weekly timer is a staple feature that should not be missing from any robotic pool cleaner. It provides automation that simplifies pool maintenance by pre-scheduling clean-ups.
If your robotic pool cleaner doesn't have a weekly timer, you're missing out on a level of convenience that is a game-changer in the world of pool cleaning. With a weekly timer, you set your cleaning schedule once, and your robot takes care of the rest.
I believe that the absence of a weekly timer in any robotic pool cleaner is a significant drawback. This feature allows your machine to operate hands-free, providing you with a gleaming pool every week without constant manual programming.
Reviewing various brands, I can confidently attest that robotic pool cleaners offering a weekly timer function like the Dolphin ProLine and Dolphin Max-Series are a notable advantage. The ease it brings to pool maintenance is undeniably substantial and shouldn't be overlooked when choosing your robotic pool cleaner.

Overview

The Dolphin Explorer E50, although not my top preference, is still a highly competent robotic pool cleaner. While it may not match the prowess of the Dolphin ProLine or Max-Series, it proves to be a good investment for any pool owner. Scoring an impressive 96 on my robot score scale, the Explorer E50 impresses with its advanced pool scanning and cleaning capabilities.
The cleaner finds a balance between power and energy efficiency. While it does lack factors like a weekly timer option that some of my favourite cleaners have, its corded nature makes it a sturdy, reliable choice for anyone looking to automate their pool cleaning process. You might need to tinker with it a bit more, but the results will still be satisfying.
For more detailed reviews on robotic pool cleaners, do take the time to visit our exhaustive reports on cleaners like the Dolphin Premier or the Dolphin Sigma. You might find a cleaner that's just perfect for your pool. In conclusion, while the Dolphin Explorer E50 may not top my list of favourites, it stands well on its own, making it a solid choice for many pool owners. It strikes a harmonious balance between performance, longevity, and value. It's a well-thought-out cleaning robot that does an excellent job at what it's made for - keeping your pool pristinely clean.

Recommendation

Absolutely, as a specialized pool cleaner reviewer, I have the experience to confidently recommend Max-Series and ProLine robots for in-depth household and commercial cleaning tasks. The uniqueness of these robotic pool cleaners is unquestionably evident in their ability to offer time-saving, efficient, and exceptional cleaning results, that is synonymous with the Dolphin brand.
The Dolphin Max Series, for example, boasts impressive technology like CleverClean, which intelligently navigates your pool for a comprehensive clean every time. With remarkable reliability and thorough cleaning results, it’s a pick you can never go wrong with. Things only get better with their easy-to-use settings and energy-saving operability. You can consider checking out the details of our review for Dolphin Max-Series here.
On the other hand, the Dolphin ProLine exhibits superior functionality in terms of wall-climbing, advanced weekly scheduling, and tangle-free operation. Marrying mind-boggling technology with convenience, this series has gained a solid reputation among users. For a more detailed view of the ProLine series, you might want to read our dedicated review here.
To sum up, the Max-Series and ProLine robots deliver the performance that transcends the usual expectations pool owners have of robotic pool cleaners. Notably, most of their models don't just clean; they perfect your pool condition with a precision that’s rarely matched by other brands. Therefore, I surely recommend these lines for anyone who wants to keep their pool pristine.

Great little unit for my 33x15 inground, but be prepared to buy ultra fine filters for fine dirt.

Steve D. - Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2022

So, our pool was filled July 10 and the 30 day mark seemed to be the consensus that the plaster is cured enough for an auto vac. Seems robots and suction vacs all have pros and cons. I liked the fact that robots are self contained rather sending the debris and dirt through the system. But, the downside is the mfg recommends cleaning it after each use, so it isn’t exactly set and forget like a vac going through the system would be, which is a pretty big downside to me, having to pull it out and clean every day. I actually thought about returning it for this reason and also after finding out that it won’t pick up fine settled dirt or silt with the included filters so I had to spend additional $$ for ultra fine filters (which do the job).

WORKS PRETTY GOOD... but...

I am a quadriplegic and manually vacuuming the pool is a royal pain in my behind. The Dolphin does a pretty darn good job. I especially like that it climbs the walls and scrubs the waterline. However, it has a couple of little issues that keep it from getting five stars. 1. It constantly twists the cord. It takes me the better part of fifteen minutes to untwist it, and it takes the Dolphin about three minutes to undo my work. 2. The biggest reason that I bought the Dolphin is because I have issues cleaning the corners of the pool right next to the wall. It seems the Dolphin also has issues with those areas. Other than those two things it's a pretty good product so far.

Service issue in under 3 months...does a pretty good job when working properly

Mark H - Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2022

First off the Good: Explorer 30 does a good job cleaning my fiberglass pool. You'll want to order the expensive ultra fine filters to get the real value of this robot. It scrubs the waterline and randomly runs around the bottom of the pool and walls for 3 hours. The ultra fine filters can be a little difficult to get clean depending on how much debris is stuck in them but a high powered garden hose usually does the trick cleaning them. Clean up takes me around 5 minutes to thoroughly spray the filter and store the unit. I replaced a Polaris 280 side suction cleaner and there's simply no comparison to be made...the Explorer 30 is far superior to the Polaris 280 as it should be. The bad: I've owned the cleaner for 2.5 months and run it in my pool approximately once a week. I store it outside in a large outdoor deckbox where the unit and controller are protected from water getting in. At around the 2 month mark I began to notice I would start the robot and 30 minutes later the control module would be lit up Blue indicating it was on but I'd find it just sitting on the bottom of the pool not running. At times I might have to restart it several times in order to get it to do much cleaning at all. I finally reached out to Maytronics and they are willing to service it but be aware that it is me/the owner's responsibility to ship this heavy robot across the country to them at the OWNERS expense. At the selling price of around a thousand dollars, I would have expected within the first year, Dolphin/Maytronics to take care of my shipping charges if the unit they sold me was defective. I was told it will take approximately 3 weeks from the time I ship my Dolphin to Maytronics before then send it back. Bottom Line: When it works, it does a nice job. Not perfect but good enough and much better than my old Polaris. Maybe all robotic cleaner mfgs require the owner to pay shipping costs within the first 3 months of ownership but that cost was not something I'd anticipated when I purchased the unit leaving me a little disappointed in my experience so far.

I would have given this E30 five stars if the part number was given in the instructional manual for the “fine filters.” The filters that came with the E30 were ok for the big stuff in the pool but these filters hardly touched the sand, dirt and dust that is constantly trashing our pool with the Las Vegas desert huge winds. Amazing machine but...

M2 Bell - Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2022

Received my E30 last night - about a week ahead of schedule. First thing this morning I eagerly read the quick start guide and had it in the water by 8am. At 8:20a is stopped moving. About 9:00a I decided to pull it out of the water and have a look - nothing in the basket, nothing blocking the impeller and the tracks moved freely. Put it back in the water, hit the button and it took off. Twenty minutes later it stopped again. After extensive research I discovered these things have had this problem since day 1, it appears to be an easy fix and Maytronics has ignored the issue. The fix will require about 2 minutes of your time. Follow the instructions in the OM to remove the basket and impeller (2 Philips head screws). Once the impeller is out you will see two more screws that hold the "guts" in. Remove those two screws and lift the "guts" up slightly. Now, set them back down reassemble everything. Put the E30 back in the pool and press the power button. Done. Mine has now completed 3 complete cycles without stopping. Apparently these units bounce around in the box and the guts loosen up. Amazing cleaner but I'm giving it a rating of 3 because for $900 we should not have to go thru this.

I was sick of repairing my old Polaris cleaner that runs on a booster pump. I had replaced many parts, but still had to tinker with it to get marginal performance. The reviews here and elsewhere were good for this robot, so I ordered it. My pool was quite dirty, and there was a mild algae bloom to deal with and it took multiple cycles over a couple days to clean it up. Despite all that, the robot still doesn't hit every part of my pool. I can see areas that it missed, so I know my days of brushing the pool still go on (not that anyone ever indicated it was going away). At least it isn't popping wheelies or running in small circles at the bottom of the pool.

We’re really happy with the performance of this vacuum, we’re comparing it to a 15-year-old Aqaba. Technology has improved over time, and our other vacuum was failing. I was also considering a Polaris model but after going back-and-forth several times decided to give this one a shot and I have not been disappointed so far. Very easy to clean, gather small sand and large leaves just the same. Our pool is sparkling.

I bought this Robot hoping it would help vacuum the bottom of my pool. We have a pop up pool cleaning system and it doesn't clean all of the bottom of our pool. For 30 years I have manually vacuumed the bottom of my pool after storms left leaves covering the bottom of my pool. I was so excited to learn that the Robot might take over the vacuuming for me. We set it up and ran it 3 different times. It picked up some of the leaves but spit them out of the top vent. I followed all the troubleshooting tricks and it still spit the leaves out the top - so I ended up vacuuming the leaves manually anyways. I had heard about the Dolphin product and the E20 model and it sounded like a very good product, worth the gamble to buy one. I purchased the E20 model and put it to work and love it! It really cleans the pool completely, bottom and the walls and doesn't need any babysitting. Drop it in your pool, set the controls for 1, 2 or 3 hours and walk away...it is fantastic! The very best item I have purchased for my pool, no doubt about it!

Excellent.. took some work

TyHomesLLC - Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2022

First I will start with.. the connection issues are REAL!! I am pretty tech savvy and I thought all of the reviews on the MyDolphin app didn't know what they're doing but man oh man where they right. The app will not connect no-matter what you do. The QR code you're supposed to scan does nothing but sends you to an error page. The current app is broken. I have the latest Samsung flagship S22 Ultra on the latest version of Android so I assumed (correctly) the problem wasn't with me. The Solution: You'll need to find and download version 1.4.1, the thing connected immediately and has stayed connected this whole time (less than 24hrs). Then turn off automatic updates for that app. What I haven't tried is, now that I'm connected, I thought about updating the app thinking the app would just stay connected because it was connected in the previous version. It's a theory, I'm not going to try it. The old 1.4.1 version works great! I had the Dolphin Premier, the bagged system in that robot wasn't great. The basket in the E70 is a huge upgrade. The Premier would also give me "filter is full" error after each run. I'd take it out, clean it, next run same thing. Plus all of the smart features of the E70... nice upgrade. I'll update if anything changes, but this thing is pretty sweet!

I have a kidney shaped pool and it gets all the pool surface. Can't tell you about sharp corners in a pool as you have.

Question
How does it do with steps and shelf part of pool?
Answer

In my pool, the tanning ledge is too shallow for it to operate it won't crawl onto mine and scrub it. It does climb the steps and does a little bit of work on them but you should expect to still need to brush the ledge, stairs, and any benches regularly.

Question

Answer

Question

Answer

Question
Does it work on a vinyl liner?
Answer

Question
Does work with 220 volts?
Answer

No, this pool vacuum is set up to use standard USA household current, 110 volt. You'd have to purchase a 220V to 110V convertor (Amazon sells one for $38). You'd be fine with one of those.

Question
How do I get help with my vacuum? One of the tracks keeps falling off of it! It goes to the side of the pool and it gets stuck and then it just stops!
Answer

First off, I'm assuming the writer is referring to the Dolphin E20 as his "vacuum". It sounds like an adjustment or some kind of tensioner, could be required to fix the problem. I have never experienced anything like this, so I'm at a loss for an answer. I'd contact Customer Service at Dolphin and explain the problem. I would expect he could find an answer with them.

Question
How much does it weigh?
Answer

I don't really know, it's probably in the owners manual...my guess would be 15-20lb. It's simple to pull on it's cord and drag it up from the bottom of your pool, up to the waterline and then they have a sizeable handle to yank it out of the water.

Question
Can it clean in-ground vinyl pool?
Answer

yes...does an excellent job!

Question

Answer

Question
Can this be used in a 30x15 in ground pool with a liner?

Question
Can you use on above ground pool?
Answer

NO!

Question
Can it be used on an above ground pool
Answer

Yes it can be used for above ground and in ground vinyl pools. I use the Dolphin E23 for our vinyl in ground pool and it does a very good job cleaning the pool, and it does clime to clean the wall of the pool also. Awesome product.

Question
Voltage need to know if purchased on amazon in usa, can i bring to a different country using 230v 50hz?
Answer

My guess is you would have to buy a voltage convertor just like you would if you needed any 110V USA appliance, like a hairdryer or electric toothbrush.

Question
Is this Safe on vinyl liners?
Answer

Yes, works great!

Question
How long is the power cord?
Answer

Approximately 6 feet

Question
What model of Dolphin auto cleaner should I get for I above ground pool need at least 45 foot power cord?
Answer

The dolphin E10. It only has 30 feet of cord but you mount the power box in the middle of the pool and it reaches both directions.

Question
Does the unit need to be plugged into a wall outlet during use?
Answer

Yes. It does.

Question
what’s the part number for the ultrafine filters for this e30
Answer

Question
Is the control unit waterproof?
Answer

I'd guess the owner's manual would tell you if the control box is waterproof, but the design of this unit makes that question not an issue (unless you leave the control box out in the rain). The Dolphin has a 50' waterproof cord that powers the Dolphin E20 while it's in the water...it is attached to the Dolphin and can't be removed. The other end of that cord is screwed into the control box which also has a 110V cord that you plug into household electrical outlet. The instructions do recommend keeping the control box shielded from direct sunlight because it does run warm while operating. The controls are on the box...on & off switch and the option of running the unit 1, 2 or 3 hours. You attach the 50' cord to your control box and lower the dolphin into your pool. Turn it on and select the time you want it to run, start it and walk away. This unit is simply amazing! It does a great job on the bottom and walls of your pool, you don't have to do anything! I truly love his item and HIGHLY recommend one for your pool!

Question
how do I register for the warranty if buying off amazon?
Answer

Answer

The Dolphin E20 is specifically made for in ground pools. The Nautilus CC is made to service both inground and above grounds pools. The specs say the are virtually the same in performance and values. Either one should work fine. I have an inground and bought the E20 and its a dream!

Question
Can the filter pickup algae and fine sands?
Answer

Question
What’s the difference with the E20 vs the Nautilus Cc?
Answer

Don't know the answer, but if you Google that question, you'll find a compete spread sheet answer. Bottom line, the E20 is for in ground pools and the Nautilus is good for both in ground and above ground. If you have an in ground pool, no worries, buy the E20 and you'll be thrilled!
